Solve automated delivery challenges with ANSYS
Retailers and commercial shipping firms are beginning to explore wireless picking and placing robots in warehouses, as well as the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to deliver packages from warehouses to consumers. The successful operation of these wireless delivery systems, whether their components are on the ground or in the air, is enabled by antennas.
Like most large structures, a warehouse is a complex electromagnetic environment. A new order fulfillment system there would have wireless robots with antennas, electronic systems and many pieces of equipment dispersed among its inventory of goods. The automated picking and placing of orders faces a host of physics challenges, the most common being metal shelves and reinforced walls that create interference and block RF signals. A UAV, while much smaller in comparison, is also equipped with multiple antennas, and their improper placement on a vehicle could create RFI that jeopardizes a delivery. What’s more, the aerodynamic performance of a UAV on its flight path through an urban environment must contend with RFI from external sources as well as air turbulence.
With ANSYS 3-D simulation tools, retailers and commercial shippers can greatly accelerate the design of order fulfillment and delivery systems by predicting antenna reliability before their deployment. Plus, they shorten a system’s prototyping process and calculate on-site or in-flight environmental conditions experienced during physical testing and evaluation.
