Presentation Spotlight

Day 1 Keynote: Q&A

Nicholas E. Buris, the president of NEBENS LLC will give a presentation at the 2009 Antenna Systems Conference titled, Cross-Layer Design of Smart Antenna Systems. Nick took the time to discuss this topic, its value and its importance in today’s environment.

Q: Are there any technology advancements or economical factors that make your presentation timely?

A: Yes. The added degrees of freedom of the Smart Antenna enabled systems allow for better overall system performance by performing cross-layer design.  In many cases, intermediate specifications can be relaxed without a penalty on the overall performance.  This relaxation of the intermediate specs can yield significant cost reduction.

Q: How can/will the information you provide impact attendees or their business operations?

A: The talk is designed to provide a glimpse of the methodology of cross-layer optimization and offer some practical examples for antenna design.

Q: Who is your presentation most targeted towards?

A: Antenna and RF engineers and their project/department managers

Q: What lasting value will the attendee receive?

A: The value of rigor and the fundamentals will never go out of style.  In fact, the more complex our systems become, the greater the need to dig deep into the fundamentals.

Q: Any other comments for our attendees?
A:  I have heard the venue is really nice and the conference will offer an opportunity to make good and new friends in a nice environment.  Have a great time and do not hesitate to catch me for offline discussions if interested in the subject of my talk and how to apply it to your company's problems, as appropriate.

Day 2 Keynote: Q&A

John Dooley, the managing director with the Jarvinian Venture Fund will give a presentation at the 2009 Antenna Systems Conference titled, Waking the Venture Capital World to the Importance & Value of Antenna Innovation: What VCs Focus on and How to Attract Capital. John took the time to discuss this topic, its value and its importance in today’s environment.

Q: Are there any technology advancements or economical factors that make your presentation timely?

A: The extraordinary growth of wireless subscribership and per-user demand for bandwidth has placed massive demands upon mobile network infrastructure.  Thus, it is clear that antenna technologies will play an extremely important role in the future of the mobile industry.  To the degree that emerging antenna innovations help resolve pressing bandwidth and quality of service shortfalls, the real economic value of these new technologies will be unprecedented.

However, despite the significant opportunities in antennas and related wireless technologies, innovative companies find themselves in a very difficult fund-raising environment. To succeed, antenna developers will need to become more sophisticated than ever about venture funding.

Q: How can/will the information you provide impact attendees or their business operations?

A: My goal is to make antenna development organizations aware of the realities of the current venture capital industry and, by extension, give them a greater advantage in funding their efforts.

Q: Who is your presentation most targeted towards?

A: I hope that this presentation will be of interest to everyone who is involved in antenna systems development.  However, I will aim to address the issues that are most important for small companies seeking venture funding for antenna innovation.

Q: What lasting value will the attendee receive?

A: Ideally, the attendee will receive an understanding of the venture capital process that will give them an advantage in funding new development projects.
