2008 Antenna Systems Conference Announces Pre-Conference Workshop
Antennas for Wireless Communications: Basic Principles & System Applications
This half-day short course will present the basic principles of antennas as applied to wireless communication systems. The fundamental types of antennas (electrically small, resonant, broadband, and aperture) will be discussed, including examples of popular antennas for base stations and for satellite, vehicular and handheld terminals. Array antenna basics will be introduced. Special considerations for popular systems such as cellular radio and ultra-wideband radio will be presented. The presentation will conclude with a photo presentation of antennas in practice.

Dr. Warren Stutzman has been Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech for 38 years, including positions as department head, and as founding director of the Virginia Tech Antenna Group. He is also with Maxtena, Inc. He is the author of a leading antenna text book and has published more than 80 journal articles and made more than 200 technical presentations. Dr. Stutzman has twice won the Wheeler best applications paper in the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. He has held several IEEE positions, including President of the Antennas and Propagation Society. He is Fellow of the IEEE and an IEEE Third Millennium Medal Winner.

Zinwave Launches 3000 Active Wideband DAS for In-Building Wireless Coverage
Zinwave, a pioneer of next generation in-building cellular and wireless technology, recently launched its 3000 Active Wideband Distributed Antenna System (DAS). Designed to support and aggregate a multiservice, multi-operator wireless environment, the Zinwave 3000 is the most cost-effective in-building coverage system. Unique Design Gives Double-Ridged Waveguide Horn Antenna Optimized Gain
in EMC Testing

The R&S HF907 covers a wide frequency range from 800 MHz to 18 GHz. As a transmit and receive antenna, it can both generate disturbance and detect radiated emissions of devices under test (DUTs). During these measurements, the antenna's flat gain permits even illumination of the DUT. In EMC tests, manufacturers and operators of electronic equipment benefit from distortion-free radiation patterns and obtain exact results. In the past, conventional double-ridged waveguide horn antennas exhibited gain losses at one or more points in the frequency range, which was reflected in the radiation pattern.
